Vicodin

The main risk of Vicodin is the addiction that occurs, so that if not controlled medically can be very addictive and therefore need a detoxification treatment.Dr. House and Vicodin

The Vicodin produces symptoms of euphoria and was discovered in 1923. The first report of Vicodin dependence was published in 1961.

The prolonged and excessive use of paracetamol, a drug that contains the Vicodin, can cause liver lexion. The physical tolerance to the drug after a prolonged use can cause higher doses necessary to achieve the same pain relief. Because of paracetamol, one component of Vicodin can lead to liver damage, or cases of respiratory complications. The physical and emotional dependence on Vicodin can occur after weeks of continuous use. WITHDRAWAL symptoms such as insomnia, night sweats, tremors, and agitation can occur when you stop using the Vicodin.

Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain-reliever and a cough suppressant, similar to codeine. Hydrocodone blocks the receptors on nerve cells in the brain that give rise to the sensation of pain. Acetaminophen is a non-narcotic analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer). Acetaminophen works by elevating the threshold to pain, that is, in order for pain to be felt, greater stimulation of the nerves responsible for the sensation of pain is necessary. It reduces fever through its action on the temperature-regulating center of the brain. Frequently, hydrocodone and acetaminophen are combined to achieve pain relief, as in Vicodin and Lortab. For more information please see acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Prescription

The Vicodin is a powerful drug that must be handled with care as it is an opiate addiction that can cause a very strong, as happens to the Dr. House of the Series.

The Vicodin is a cough suppressant and analgesic agent to treat moderate pain. Studies indicate that it is more effective than codeine for cough suppression and nearly equivalent to morphine for pain relief.

There are several hundred brand name and generic hydrocodone products, the products are prescribed hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Vicodin ®, Lortab ®).
